Villa Zalia, near Alcaucín, Andalucía, Spain

A house that’s hard to leave. It’s light, airy and relaxed, with a big pool, hillside views and a lovely terrace. Villa Zalia is part of the Zalia Retreats collection of stylish holiday homes, and it suits families, couples and pet owners alike.

Location and Setting

The villa is just down the track from Alcaucín, a traditional “pueblo blanco” (white village) with bars, restaurants, shops, banks, a play area and a basketball court.

The nearest beach with full facilities is a 20-minute drive away, and more private coves are signed a little further along the coast. El Ingenio shopping mall, with its cinema and Aqua Velis water park, is also 20 minutes away, and Málaga airport is an hour’s drive.

For days out, Granada and the Alhambra, Málaga and the Museo Picasso, and Ronda are all within reach. Good skiing and snowboarding are two hours away in the Sierra Nevada, the most southerly ski centre in mainland Europe. Ski early, swim late afternoon.

The House

The house is cool in summer thanks to air conditioning, and cosy in winter with heating and a wood-burning stove. The living space is light and airy, and free Wi-Fi covers the whole villa and the pool area.

The villa has no stairs and wide doorways, so it’s easy to move around.

Bedrooms

• Main bedroom: double bed and ensuite with bath.
• Second bedroom: double bed, or twin beds, next to a second large wet room.

A cot is available.

Pool and Terrace

The terrace is furnished for outdoor meals and sunbathing. The large pool is big enough for serious swimmers to get their exercise and for everyone else to float and enjoy the views.

The hillside is carefully planted with local cacti, poppies and boulders.

A local house manager is on hand for anything you need during your stay.
