Architect-designed to make the most of its panoramic sea and mountain views, Thea Zalia is the perfect place to relax and unwind. It’s part of the Zalia Retreats collection of stylish holiday homes, and it suits families, couples and pet owners alike.

Location and Setting

The villa is in Sellia, a small, quiet rural village with many older homes and plenty of traditional Cretan charm. People travel from all around to eat here, at restaurants renowned for their hospitality, home-cooked local food and stunning views over Plakias Bay. A small mini market sells fresh local vegetables, good wines and culinary staples.

Larger supermarkets are a seven-minute drive away in Plakias, a quiet, peaceful town with good restaurants, bars and shops. Clear blue seas and quiet beaches are plentiful here, and all are within a five to twenty-minute drive.

The House

The spacious living area has comfortable seating for everyone, online digital TV channels and free Wi-Fi. The open-plan dining space has a large table that suits informal meals as well as fine dining, and it’s perfect for celebration dinners.

The contemporary kitchen is fully equipped, with a large fridge-freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee machine and microwave. Large sliding glass doors lead to a shaded outdoor dining space and the pool, where the views open out to the sea.

The villa has air conditioning throughout and a wood-burning stove for the cooler months.

Bedrooms

• Main bedroom: super king bed and ensuite, with panoramic mountain and sea views from the bed. On clear days you can see Gavdos, Europe’s most southerly island.
• Second bedroom: king-size bed and oak flooring, opening onto a terrace.
• Third bedroom: twin beds that can be made up as a king, looking out over the village nestled beneath the mountains.

The second and third bedrooms share a wet room.

Pool and Grounds

The pool suits confident swimmers and beginners alike, with a shallow paddling area and safe, graduated steps down to the main swimming area.

The landscaped grounds include a restored ancient winnowing circle, a lovely place to stargaze as the sun goes down.

A Note on the Wind

Crete is known for its winds, and in the summer months they can be very strong. They keep the heat down, but you may find outdoor days breezier than you’d expect. Thea Zalia has been designed to shelter the pool and patio from the warm sirocco winds familiar to all the Greek islands, but please bear the wind in mind when planning your stay.
